A great weekend of events took place on 6th and 7th May to mark the Coronation Celebrations taking place across the UK

Local churches joined together to create another amazing weekend of events for all the whole community. It all began with a live showing of the coronation on big screen and on Saturday 6th in a large marquee on Owain Glyndwr fields. This then moved into a family fun day which despite the weather saw over 800 people attending enjoying music, escapology, puppets, circus skills, donkey rides, giant inflatables, pottery face painting and free BBQ as well as lots more!

Into the Saturday evening there was a youth event organised for those in High Schools with Laser Tag and presentation by Ricardo. The Sunday weather was a bit more settled and we had a Big Lunch event, followed by a all age service and into the evening churches from across Caerphilly joined for a final celebration with nearly 300 people in attendance.

None of this could have happened without an amazing group of volunteers who gave hours of their time to set up the site and erect the Marquee, serve all those who attended over the weekend and then pack it all down again before Sunday evening had come to a close.

Thanks also to the financial support of local churches and lottery funding in making the whole event free of charge to everyone who attended.

A collective of musicians and singer from Caerphilly churches joined forced under the name of "Sound of Hope" for Caerphilly Little Cheese.

The band made up of 7 musicians and singer presented a 30 minute "set" of contemporary Christians Worship music to a great crowd of onlookers on Sunday 4th September at the Caerphilly Little Cheese Event. The band were the first to perform that day and the presenter was surprised to see so many had turned out to hear the music. Not only did the crowd turn up but they joined in with great enthusiasm and everyone who attended enjoyed the time together. The weather was also kind to them (which sadly was not the case for some of the weekends performers) and the sun shone during the performance.

Steve Harris one of the pastor who had asked if the band could take part said.

"This was a great opportunity for the church to be out on the streets. The band had originally formed for the Jubilee weekend event in June and with a few changes was able to work together again for this event. We are excited to see churches working together to share the good news of Jesus and present a message of hope to all who listened."

Check out a short video recorded the the event to give you a flavour of the event.

You might have seen Neil with his bright tee-shirts and messages carrying a cross as he regularly walks around the Caerphilly area with a smile on his face. We caught up with Neil and asked him.

Why do you walk with the cross and where did my journey begin?

I was brought up in a Christian home and went to church and heard many stories of Jesus and from the rest of the Bible, but I still felt empty inside. I went to a prayer meeting and I decided to pray out loud to Jesus. It was an amazing experience and I felt like at that moment things changed. I felt Jesus love in a new way and his acceptance in a way I had not felt before.

The first time it walked with the cross was about 10-15 years ago. It had a big impact on me as it helped me share my faith with many people. I had a new passion for the revivals of the past and looked on the internet and read books on the subject. That same fire and passion began to burn in my heart.

I read about a guy called Daniel Nash who would pray for revival in places before Charles Finney (a very famous preacher) would go to preach. I also looked at the story of Esther in the Bible and how God raised her up a specific time and encouraged people to pray and fast. All of these things got me more excited about using carrying the cross as a visual aid for people who don’t go to to church.

When Covid hit I March 2020 I saw a lot of people who were living with a lot of fear in their lives. As I was outdoors, I was able to meet people and talk to them about the Hope that I had found in Jesus. By the time the second lockdown came I couldn’t just sit and watch people who seemed to be so full of fear. In October 2020 I walked from Caerphilly to Senghenydd with the cross. I then regularly did this walk with the cross. It was great to talk to and meet so many people.

My hearts cry is that people would discover the peace, hope, joy, love, and acceptance that I have found in Jesus. I want people to experience true freedom. I want to see Churches across Caerphilly full again. I don’t believe that revival is impossible. It might start with a few people, but it can grow. I don’t believe that God has forgotten Caerphilly or wale and if I can play a small part in helping see this happen then that would be great!

Safe Families are an organisation supporting families in this local areas. Here is just one of their good news stories of what is happening through their work.

Emma is an awesome Mum to her kids, but when we met her, she was isolated and going through some tough circumstances. “I love my kids, but you need more than just that. You need friends by your side”. She now meets up with our Family Friend Alyson once a week. Everyone has fun when Alyson comes to visit! Emma said, “We just clicked!” and Alyson said, “It’s a lot of fun, we have a laugh!”

Eight churches combined for a party weekend that reached out to the community through a packed programme of jubilee celebrations. It all took place from the 3rd to 5th June on the Owain Glyndwr Fields.

The Big Caerphilly Jubilee Party crammed seven events into 48 hours over the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend, with one attraction alone, the The Big Jubilee Fun Day, bringing together more than 1,000 people.

A fun day, tea party, chat show, youth gathering, picnic, family service and Pentecost celebration made up three days of events for all of Caerphilly to enjoy.

Over 100 church volunteers helped to organise the celebration, with the help of grant funding and financial support from a number of local churches. That support meant all the food served over the weekend was free, with organisers reporting a positive response from the community.

The fun day drew the largest crowd, with 600 burgers and 400 cakes given away alongside attractions including a stilt walker, circus skills, a drumming workshop, giant inflatables, farm animals, lizards, snakes and go-karts,.

The event was also supported by the Message Bus and YWAM team members shared their faith stories.

The chat show featured former Welsh rugby union international Chris Jones, life stories from local Christians and live music from local musicians Grace and Miaz.

The great feedback from the celebration was typified by one young person, who wrote: “This weekend has been amazing. I was really touched and felt different about myself after the service.”

Hundreds of booklets and leaflets about the Queen and her Christian Faith were given out and organisers report having many conversations about faith with those who gathered.

The churches behind the event were: Abertridwr Community Church; Bethel Bedwas; Bethel Penyheol; Connect Life Church (Caerphilly); Gateway Church (Caerphilly); Love Caerphilly; Hope Church Bedwas; Penyheol Cemetery Chapel as well as individual members of other churches. It was also supported by Show Jesus, YWAM and Message Wales.

Thank you to all who helped make it happen.
